Basketball

Basketball is a team sport in which two teams, typically consisting of five players each, compete to score points by shooting a ball through the opposing team’s hoop, which is mounted 10 feet high on a backboard. The game is played on a rectangular court with a hoop at each end. Players can advance the ball by dribbling (bouncing) it or passing it to teammates. The primary objective is to outscore the opponent by making field goals worth two or three points, depending on the distance from the hoop, and free throws worth one point. Basketball emphasizes skills such as shooting, dribbling, passing, and teamwork, and it is governed by a set of rules that dictate gameplay, fouls, and scoring. The sport is played professionally, at the collegiate level, and recreationally around the world.
