United States

The United States, officially known as the United States of America (USA), is a country primarily located in North America. It is composed of 50 states, a federal district (Washington, D.C.), five major self-governing territories, and various possessions. The United States is bordered by Canada to the north, Mexico to the south, the Atlantic Ocean to the east, and the Pacific Ocean to the west.

The country was founded in 1776 when thirteen British colonies declared independence from Great Britain. The U.S. Constitution, ratified in 1788, established the federal government and is the supreme law of the land. The United States operates as a constitutional republic, with a system of checks and balances among three branches of government: executive, legislative, and judicial.

As one of the world’s most influential nations, the United States plays a significant role in global politics, economics, culture, and military affairs. It has a diverse population and a wealth of natural resources, contributing to its position as a leading global power.
